Born in 1960 in Bochum, Germany. After earning a doctorate degree in Mathematics Johannes Tipp started black & white photography and very soon had his own darkroom. Later he studied with the New York Institute of Photography, got a degree in Professional Photography and complemented his studies with NYI‘s Advanced Course in Photojournalism. From NYI he received two Awards of Merit.
For some years Johannes Tipp documented local performing arts, with photographs being published in brochures and newspapers. Having an interest in cities, culture, history and travel, he moved on to travel photography and urban photography. This gives him the opportunity to follow several of his interests at the same time and connect them with photography.
Urban and Travel Photography
Most of the photographs of this website belong either to urban photography or travel photography. Urban photography deals with the city itself, i.e. its architecture, colours, light, atmosphere and life in a city. Travel photography focusses on the sights of a particular place, its culture and history.
The Travel section of this website contains travel photographs. The photos show different aspects of a place, traces of a historical event or are concerned with subjects like street art. Some photographs are taken from a personal point of view. They are the result of walks, as a stroller might experience the place.
The Projects section contains collections of photographs that are not directly related to a certain country or place. Projects are of a more personal nature and cover subjects like close-ups, cities, colour, urban photography or street photography.
